Samuel Balcomb Chute and Ruth Ann Margeson Chute:

96th Birthday Celebration, Ruth Ann Margeson Chute

Celebrates 96th Birthday

"Mrs. Sam Chute of Kingston will be celebrating her 96th birthday on November 23rd. This grand old lady of Kingston was born in Waterville in 1872. She is residing with her son-in-law, John Stevens of Kingston.
Mrs. Chute has spent a long and active life. To this day she has never taken pills of any kind. Today, she spends most of her time in bed, but her hands are always busy with her knitting. During her long life she has produced mountains of handicraft. At the age of eighty, she spend one thousand hours on a tapestry which is a piece of art and could only be produced by one of tremendous skill and dexterity.
Her late husband was known as Nova Scotia's Apple King. The Chutes had a large farm in South Berwick which was operated by Silas Chute <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chute/gp2015.htm#head0> and later by his son Sam. Silas had built a small commercial empire on this farm, producing boxes for shipping fruit, grinding grain and bonemeal and extracting apple cider with a giant hand press. Sam Chute developed the farm into one of the largest fruit farms in the country. He was growing an estimated six acres of blackberries, twelve acres of raspberries, as much as forty acres of strawberries abnd the same acreage for potatoes. In his orchard he grew pears, plums and of course his famous apples. The Chutes had one daughter Lucy <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~chute/gp2040.htm#head4> who passed away last year.
One sister of Mrs. Chutes is still living. She is Mrs. Wilbert Oxley of Calgary, Alberta and one brother Ernest Margeson of Berwick."
