Elizabeth Brooke Marquise Northampton 25
- Born: 1526
- Marriage: William Parr 1st Marquis Northampton
- Died: 1565 at age 39
Elizabeth Brooke, Lady Northampton came to court in the last years of Henry VIII <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/aboutHenryVIII.htm> and captivated the much older William Parr <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/WilliamParr(1MNorthampton).htm>. Northampton <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/WilliamParr(1MNorthampton).htm> already had a wife but he married Elizabeth in 1547 and lived with her until they were ordered to separate. Their marriage was declared valid in 1548, invalid in 1553, and valid again in 1558--each change of monarch, and religion, changed Elizabeth's status. She was involved in the match to marry Jane Grey <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/aboutJaneGrey.htm> to Guildford Dudley <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/Bios/GuildfordDudley.htm>. At the court of Queen Elizabeth <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/aboutElizabeth.htm>, Lady Northampton was considered one of the Queen <http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/aboutElizabeth.htm>'s closest friends, but as early as 1564 she was known to be suffering from breast cancer. At that time she made a trip to Antwerp to visit doctors there, but no cure existed.
Elizabeth married William Parr 1st Marquis Northampton [MRIN: 12885], son of Sir Thomas of Kendal Parr and Maud Green . (William Parr 1st Marquis Northampton died on 28 Oct 1571 and was buried in Collegiate Church, Warwick, England.)
