Iain Macdonald, Lord of the Isles was born circa 1326.3 He was the son of Angus 'Oig' Macdonald, Lord of the Isles and Agnes O'Cathan .2 He married, firstly, Amie MacRuari , daughter of Ruari MacRuari of Gamorgan , circa 1337.2 He married, secondly, Margaret Stewart , daughter of Robert II Stewart, King of Scotland and Elizabeth Mure of Rowallan , after 14 June 1350, by Papal dispensation.3 He died in 1387 at Ardtornish Castle, Scotland .3,2
Iain Macdonald, Lord of the Isles was styled as Lord of the Isles.1 He was also known as Eoin.3 Between 1332 and 1338 he allied with Edward Balliol.2 In 1346 he was pardoned by King David II of Scotland, and then allied with him.2 He fought in the Battle of Poitiers in 1356, where he was captured while fighting with the French against the English.2 In 1369 he resumed his alliance with King David II of Scotland, after a period of disaffection.2
He was the chief of the clan Dougall.
