The John Hickey who died in Henry County in 1784 was NOT
named John C. Hickey. There is not a shred of proof that
he is the same John Hickey who was born in Middlesex County.
There is a death record for a John Hickey in Middlesex in
the 1720s which might be this John Hickey.
There is absolutely no proof that Middleton was the surname
of Mary Hickey, wife of John who died in Henry County. This
started out as a GUESS and has been copied over and over as
fact. There are several other surnames that are far more likely.
Middleton has been listed as an error by many researchers.
John Hickey, son of the John Hickey who died in Henry County
in 1784, died in Arkansas between the 1830 census and the 1834
tax lists where his widow is found. Even though both had wives
named Sarah (probably the source of the mixup), these are two
different John Hickeys.
It appears that two or three different Hickey families
have been been confused in this online gedcom. There are
so many online errors due to massive copying of other
people's "research!" I hope this helps someone to weed
out some of these errors.
