James Longstreet, soldier, the son of James and Mary Anna (Dent) Longstreet and the nephew o f Augustus Baldwin Longstreet and the nephew of AugustusBaldwin Lonstreet {q.v.}, was born o f New Jersey stock in Edgefield District, S.C., but removed in early childhood to the vicinit y of Augusta, Georgia, where his father farmed until he died in 1833. His widow then reside d at Somerville, Morgan county, Alabama, from which state James Longstreet was admitted to We st Point in 1838.
