General Notes:
THOMAS (DARCY), BARON DARCY OF CHICHE, son and heir, born about 156 5. He was summoned to Parliament 15 September 1586. His only son and he ir apparent, Thomas Darcy, having died s.p. in his lifetime, his son-in-la w, Sir Thomas SAVAGE, husband of his 1st daughter, Elizabeth, obtained, 8 October 1613, a "grant of t he reversion of the dignity (of Baron Darcy of Chiche] from the death of T homas, the present Baron without heirs male of his body," with remaind er to the heirs male of his own body by the said Elizabeth, his wife. On 5 July 1621, he, under the st yle of "Thomas, Lord Darcy, Baron of Chiche," was created "VISCOUNT COLCHE STER, co. Essex, for life [sic], with reversion to [the said] Thomas Savag e, Knt. and Bart., one of the Gentlemen of the Chamber, husband of Elizabeth, da. of Thomas, Lo rd Darcy, and to the heirs male of his body by the said Elizabcth," and fi nally he was created, 4 November 1626, EARL RIVERS, with remainder "to t he heirs male of his body, with rem. to Thomas Savage Knt. and Bart. and the heirs male of his body ," the said Thomas Savage being himself created, at the same date, Viscou nt Savage. He married, shortly before 20 April 1583 (articles dated 16 Apr il), Mary, daughter and heir of Sir Thomas KITSON, of Hengrave, Suffolk, by Elizabeth, daught er of Sir Thomas CORNWALLIS. He died s.p.m.s., 21 February 1639/40, in Lon don, aged about 74, and was buried at St. Osyth's. At his death the Baro ny of Darcy of Chiche [1551] became extinct. His widow died between 7 May and 28 June 1644, and was bur ied in Trinity Church, Colchester.
The reversion of the Barony of Darcy of Chiche, granted 8 October 16 13, as above mentioned, with a special remainder in favour of Thomas Savag e, &c., was not inherited by the said Thomas, in consequence of his deat h, 20 Nov. 1635, in the lifetime of (Earl Rivers) the then Lord, but devolved (together with th at Earldom, &c.) to daughter Elizabeth.
