General Notes:
Isaac Allerton left London, England for Leiden, Holland. He was a Separati st. He moved to Leiden during the persecution that started in 1607, but ju st when I don't know. It had to be before 4 Nov 1611 as he was marri ed to Mary Norris in Leiden Holland on that date. They had four childr en in Leiden, but one died.
In Aug. 1620 Isaac, Mary and their three children--Batholmew, Remember, a nd Mary--left Holland with part of the congregation on the "Speedwell" f or South Hampton, England to depart for the New World on the "Speedwell" a nd the "Mayflower". The "Speedwell" proved to be unseaworthy and they h ad to abandoned her after many attempts to repair her. They then sail ed 16 Sept. 1620 on the "Mayflower" arriving in the New World on 19 Nov. 1 620. They helped to found the "Plymouth Colony" in what is today Mass. Isa ac's wife Mary gave birth to a still born son on the Mayflower in the harb or and died a little over a month later. About half of the mayflower passe ngers died the first winter they were there.
Isaac married Fear Brewster in 1626 at Plymouth (or 22 May 1627--the re is some conflicting information here). He later married Rose Davis. H is house was the 5th one going south on the main road from the storehous e. (from an old copy of "World Book Enc."). Isaack was assistant Govern or of Plymouth colony in 1642 and one of eight men at New Amsterdam.
John Allerton was with them but died the First winter here. I have n ot as yet tied him to Isaack. Found a note about him: John Allerton di ed in the colony. In 1608 he and his followers went to Holland and he taug ht at the University in Leyden in 1620 he and his followers went to the n ew world.
"Colonial Families of the U.S., says that Isaack was born in Co. Suffol k, England.
Note: [The English Ancestry and Homes of the Pilgrim Fathers] He was called a ta ilor of London in the Leyden records, and was born in 1586,according to h is deposition. There is nothing in his later career to show that he follow ed the occupation declared in the Leyden archives, although he may have been a tailor's appre ntice. He became a merchant engaged in extensive trading in New Englan d. As early as 1611 he was a resident of Leyden where he married Mary Norr is of Newbury, Co. Berks, for his first wife. In 1614, he was admitted as burgess of Leyden a nd it is worthy of note that Robert Allerton, called a "Scotchman," was li ving there contemporaneously with Isaac. None of the London registers n or the records of the Merchants Tailors Company of London give a positive clue to Isaac Allerton . Note: ============================================== Note: By all accounts, "one of the busiest and most compicated men in early N ew England [TMG 1:38] With extensive holdings and numerous residences, "re cords for Allerton may be found in virtually every colony on the Atlant ic seaboard and in the Caribbean, including Newfoundland, New Netherland, New Sweden, Virginia, B arbadoes and Curacao."[TMG 1:38] Note: Note: Born about 1586, died New Haven CT, after 1 Feb 1658/9 and before 12 Feb 1 658/9 (Inventory). Isaac Allerton was about 34 years old when he came to Plymouth on the Mayf lower in 1620. He had been a long-time member of the Pilgrims' chur ch in Leiden, and was recorded as having been a tailor from London. He ma rried his first wife, Marry Norris, in Leiden, in 1611, and there had chil dren Bartholomew, Remember and Mary, all of whom came on the Mayflower wi th him. He and Mary buried a child, not yet named, at St. Peters on 5 Feb ruary 1620. Isaac Allerton had a sister Sarah in Leiden, who married to M ayflower passenger Degory Priest. Mayflower passenger John Allerton, al so a Leiden resident, most likely was a relative as well, although the exa ct relation has not been discovered.
Mayflower History on the web. http://www.mayflowerhistory.com/Passengers/I saacAllerton.php Isaac Allerton was one of the more active and prominent members of early P lymouth. He was elected as Governor Bradford's assistant in 1621, and con tinued as an assistant into the 1630s. In 1627, he was sent to negotia te the Plymouth Colony's buyout of the Merchant Adventurers, the investo rs who had originally funded (and had hoped to profit from) the Colony. T he Colony was about £2500 in debt; a small group of Plymouth's resident s, including Bradford, Brewster, Standish, Fuller, and Allerton, soug ht to assume the debt themselves in return for the rights to profit from t he company. Allerton was sent to England to negotiate further, and would return to England on several more occasions. Unfortunately for the others, Allerton began to use his "free" trips to England to engage in some private gains, purchasing goods and selling them in the Massachusetts Bay and Plymouth. He also used his capacity as Plymouth's designated negotiator to engage the Colony in a number of unapproved money-making schemes: he went so far as to purchase ships (which he partially used for his own private trading), and to attempt to negotiate grants and patents for trade--all at great cost to the company and none of it approved by the others back at Plymouth. When his trading schemes failed, the Company found itself in far greater debt than it ever started out with.
When Allerton's wife Fear died at Plymouth about 1634, and with the general ire of the Colony against him, he had little reason to stay. He moved to the New Haven Colony, and by 1644 had remarried to his third wife, J oanna Swinnerton. Isaac Allerton remained an active trader, and did regular business with the Dutch at New Netherland in modern-day New York. Records of his trading can be found in numerous other colonies as well, including Virginia and Barbados.

Town established in 1638 as Quinnipiac. In 1640 the town was renamed Newhaven from Quinnipiac
New Haven County was constituted by an act of the Connecticut General Court on May 10, 1666
After Adriaen Block explored this region in 1614, Dutch fur traders sailed up the Connecticut River and built a fort at Dutch Point in what is present-day Hartford.
John Winthrop, then of Massachusetts, received permission to create a new colony at Old Saybrook at the mouth of the Connecticut River in 1635, In 1644, the Saybrook Colony merged itself into the Connecticut Colony.
The first English settlers came in 1633 and settled at Windsor, and then at Wethersfield the following year. the main body of settlers came in one large group in 1636. The settlers were Puritans from Massachusetts, led by Thomas Hooker. They broke with the political leadership in Massachusetts and established the Connecticut Colony at Hartford in 1636
The third colony was founded in March 1638. New Haven Colony (originally known as the Quinnipiack Colony)
In 1662 the colonies of Connecticut and Quinnipiack were united
