settled in Northleigh, along with the his cousins, sons of his uncle Simon. Simon's family lived up on the Hill, the high-elevation part of town, and were considered gentlemen. Richard's children lived in the lower part of town, and were described as the 'bye blow from Herefordshire" by Anthony Wood. Apparently the two sides of the family ignored each other and denied any relationship. The Hill-living side of the family denied the priviledge of using the family arms (3 pears) to Richard's family, who then had to settle for silver pears. Richard's son James got the right to bear golden pears restored to him in 1664 by Sir Edward Bysshe. Barnwell says of Richard Jr, George and Francis: "Of the three younger brothers, nothing is stated, so it is uncertain whether they left descendants."
Richard married Winifred Luxmore [57998] [MRIN: 551615632].
