Donald (Domnall) III King of Scots
Donald II succeeded Giric and Eochaid after their deaths in 889. He now ruled the land, but it was not the best of times. The Danish, led by Sigurd "the Mighty" had conquered the whole of north Scotland. Sigurd claimed the lands, killed his adve rsary "Melbrigda Tonn" in battle, cut off his head and ceremoniously hung it from his saddle. The head banged around, a tooth punctured Sigurd's leg and he quickly died of blood poisoning. The newly departed Melbrigda Tonn was renamed "the Tooth". Donald II, after spending his time fending off the Danish from the north and then from the south (led by the Danish leader "Guthrum"), died near Forres in 900. Some say he was poisoned.
