• Canonized: saint under the name San Canuto, 19 Apr 1101. On 19 April 1101, persuaded by the envoys from Eric III of Denmark, Pope Paschal II confirmed the "cult of Canute" that had arisen, and King Canute IV was canonized as a saint under the name San Canuto. He was the first Dane to be canonized. 19 January is recognised by the Catholic Church as his feast day • Acceded: King of Denmark, 1080. was King of Denmark from 1080 until 1086. ![]() Canute married Adela of Flanders [6137] [MRIN: 2110], daughter of Robert I of Flanders Count of Flanders and Artois [6138] and Gertrude of Saxony Countess of Holland [6206], about 1080.
