Hethum's father Constantine had been regent for the young Queen Zabel of Armenia. Zabel originally married Philip (1222\endash 1225), son of Bohemond IV of Antioch. However, Constantine had Philip disposed of, and instead forced Zabel to marry his own son, Hethum, on June 14, 1226, to make Zabel and Hethum co-rulers.

• Acceded: King of Armenian, 1226. Hethoum, Hetoum, Het'um, or Hayton from Armenian) ruled the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia (also known as "Little Armenia") from 1226 to 1270.

Hethum married Isabella (Zabel) Queen of Armenia [64129] [MRIN: 551618843], daughter of Leo I the Magnificent King of Armenia [64155] and Sybilla of Lusignan de Lusignan [64126], on 14 Jun 1226. (Isabella (Zabel) Queen of Armenia [64129] was born 27 Jan 1216 or 25 Jan 1217 and died on 23 Jan 1252 in Ked.)
