Bohemond was born in San Marco Argentano <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Marco_Argentano>, Calabria <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calabria>, as the eldest son of the Norman <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normans> nobleman Robert Guiscard <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Guiscard>, Duke of Apulia and Calabria <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberada_of_Buonalbergo>, and his first wife Alberada of Buonalbergo <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberada_of_Buonalbergo>. He was christened "Mark" at his baptism, but was nicknamed Bohemond (after the legendary giant Buamundus gigas), by his father due to his size as an infant
